Babies are delicate creatures that need a great quantity of TLC, food, and plenty of sleep. Did you know that infants under 3 months are supposed to sleep up to 16 hours a day? If yours is having trouble sleeping, you might need to find yourself a comfy rocking chair so you can sit and rock your child to sleep. Using a rocking chair is a surefire remedy that will get your newborn snoring contentedly within minutes.
A few weeks after returning from the hospital, our newborn daughter became colicky. Looking for an effective way to help her sleep better, my husband and I bought a white wicker rocking chair for our bedroom, and an outdoor rocking chair for our screened-in porch. You have really got to give your newborn the best possible chance to fall asleep. With that in mind, make sure he or she is as comfortable as possible. Make sure he or she has a full tummy and a fresh diaper, and then swaddle the infant tightly. Swaddling is very important. Being wrapped tight helps the child feel safe, snug, and secure. Finally, make sure the room temperature is warm, though not stifling hot. Infants are very sensitive to temperature, and are happiest when things are warm and toasty. I remember that we would often doze off to sleep ourselves when the room was well heated!
Now, prepare your sitting area with amenities for yourself and some sort of white-noise maker for your baby. You may be in your rocking chair for a while, so be sure you have something to eat and drink at hand, and something to do like watch television or read a book or newspaper set up on a stand. A quietly playing TV, or the hum of a fan or air-conditioner are soothing sounds that your newborn will be comforted by.
Finally, get to rocking! Cradle your baby on your shoulder or chest and maintain a nice and gentle rocking motion. You are going to find out two things here. The first is that your infant will fall asleep quickly, and rest soundly and happily. And the second is that you yourself will fall in love with your new rocking chair. Adults can be comforted by the sway of a rocking chair too! You'll find yourself relaxing and enjoying the company of your baby like never before.
